The Glass Flower was perhaps my least favourite of the section, distinct from its pagemates as it was by the both under-developed and suffocatingly described ‘game of the mind’ – I love a good abstract description as much as the next guy, but I found myself longing for an actual address of the ‘whys’ and ‘hows’ involved.
I was super-impressed with those stories, which were ‘With Morning Comes Mistfall’ and ‘In the Lost Lands,’ which remain two of my rd stories from this collection. Martin is brave to publish Dreamsongswhich gives rdeamsongs those of us who dreamsings younger readers and haven’t been as exposed to the short fiction magazines of Martin’s youth–a glimpse of Martin’s formative years and the works with which he became a professional author.

By the way, the idea that they were all trapped in a house in a very high place, playing a game, somehow reminded me of The Shining. This was a good collection. Lists with This Book. Even if I ignore that, however, the story feels weak. The prologues are also like a personal conversation with the author at a stage in his life heretofore unknown that pulls back the curtain for just an instant, to let us see just enough, to know what was going on in one or two brain cells, that he would write in this particular genre at this time.

That was just dull. I remember an exciting feeling of slowly learning of what had happened and of who the characters really were. The foreboding feeling makes the story work perfectly. Where the first volume surprised me with its life, the second volume surprised me with death.
Wonderfully creepy, disgusting dremsongs relevant.
While Martin is never really brilliant in his writing, he is very very good, and he obtains a sort of Michner of Fantasy sort of feel. The Hedge Knight was another favourite, and I would happily pursue more tales of Dunk and Egg, if more were to exist.

Martin is really good at creating new settings in an alien world, but for a short story I don’t think it’s always worth dreamwongs to invest the time. The best story in this book for sure. I read it because I started the show and wanted to become a smug book reader.
He didn’t pop out of nowhere and make it big with one novel. Later he became a comic book fan and collector in high school, and began to write fiction for comic fanzines amateur fan magazines.
I leave you with the first lines of Nightflyers, because another thing our author is good at is immediately pulling you into a tale, piquing your interest, and despite potential dull points, leaving enough breadcrumbs to stir the appetite, but never martkn. Known for his short stories and novelettes, his works had won numerous awards prior to his contribution to fantasy with The Song of Ice and Fire. These houses then do battle for honor in the stadium gladiator-style. Had I stumbled across some of his early sci-fi, showcased here in Dreamsongs, I’d have never pursued more.
